With the rising temperatures in North Indian cities, many people flock to nearby hill stations to seek respite. Among these sought-after destinations, Manali stands out. And for those travelling from Chandigarh to Manali, there is exciting news—the upcoming Kiratpur-Nerchowk-Manali four-lane route is poised to significantly reduce travel time between these two cities. Typically, this journey requires a considerable commitment of eight hours. However, thanks to the implementation of this new road infrastructure, the duration will be shortened to just six hours.

This project will significantly shorten the Kiratpur-Nerchowk stretch, which previously measured 114 km, will be significantly shortened to a mere 77 km. This reduction in distance amounts to an impressive 37 km saved for travellers. Furthermore, five tunnels and 22 main and 14 smaller bridges have been constructed as part of this expansive initiative.

Benefits Extend to Delhi-Manali Travellers

Although the official launch of this transformative project is yet to take place, its benefits extend beyond the immediate vicinity. Travellers from Delhi, whose route to Manali invariably passes through Chandigarh, can also rejoice at this news. Following the completion of the project, the journey from Delhi to Manali will require a mere 10 hours, further streamlining connectivity and bolstering tourism prospects.

Completion of Pandoh Bypass

One significant milestone in this endeavour has already been reached—the completion of the Pandoh bypass. This crucial section, spanning a 35-km stretch from the bypass to Takoli, previously constituted one of the most difficult parts of the Kiratpur-Manali national highway (NH3). With the successful construction of this bypass, the region has already witnessed a notable improvement in travel conditions. The highway will have several amenities, including medical facilities and high-tech CCTV cameras.

Manali: North India's Favourite Destination

Manali, located in the Kullu district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, is situated at an elevation of around 2,050 meters (6,726 feet). The town is surrounded by the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar mountain ranges. With pleasant weather, it remains a favourite destination among North Indian tourists.

One of the most popular attractions in Manali is Rohtang Pass, located about 51 kilometres (32 miles) away. It is a gateway to the Lahaul and Spiti valleys and offers views of snow-capped peaks and glaciers. Another must-visit place is Solang Valley, renowned for its adventure activities like paragliding, zorbing, and skiing during the winter season. Manali also boasts several ancient temples, including the Hidimba Devi Temple, dedicated to the wife of the Pandava prince Bhima. In addition to these attractions, it is famous for its famous bingo stalls, where visitors can try their luck at prizes.
