1. An amalgamation of great adventures in Southeast Asia

Are you an adrenaline junkie looking for new adventures? Here’s a guide to some of the most unique experiences in South East Asia.

2. Volcano Trekking

Where: Indonesia
Nothing beats the feeling of reaching the summit after a long trek. Conquer steaming volcanoes, surrounded by clouds with giant craters and puffs of smoke in Indonesia. For the seasoned hikers, East Java’s, Mount Semeru or Mount Bromo and Gunung Rinjani, on the island of Lombok, are popular multi-day treks. For an easier climb, try Bali's Gunung Batur and Gunung Agung, which is known for its splendid sunrises.

3. Canyoning

Where: New Territories, Hong Kong
New Territories, a little away from Hong Kong’s urban landscape, is an antithesis of the bustling metropolitan setup. With stunning mountainous terrain and lush vegetation, New Territories is a must for an adventure junkie. A number of incredible hiking and off-road biking routes await an avid explorer here. However, if you are looking to take it a notch up, head to the falls. You can try your hand at a handful of abseiling challenges; you can tackle at least two streams and two waterfalls. Ping Nam stream is nestled in a country park near the Chinese border. It winds its way up a valley with numerous waterfalls and plunge pools along the way providing the perfect escape from a hot Hong Kong day.

4. Surfing

Where: Philippines
The Philippines is known for its numerous beaches. Hence, it is no surprise that the island nation offers ample opportunity for surfers. Most stretches are blessed with consistently good waves year round. If you are an amateur, you can enroll for a lesson at one of the surfing schools. Siargao, off the coast of Mindanao Island is perfect for seasoned surfers. Cloud 9, a reef break, sees waves quite close to the shore, which is perfect for beginners.

5. Wreck-diving

Where: Phuket, Thailand
The water off the coast of Thailand is a playground for divers, and Phuket has some of Thailand’s best wreck-diving spot. An 85 m passenger ferry King Cruiser is one of the famed ones that attract many adventure enthusiasts. The vessel hit the submerged rocky pinnacles at Anemone Reef and sank in May 1997, en route Koh Phi Phi. The abundantly rich marine life adds a colourful touch to the wreckage. Apart from underwater wrecks, Phuket also has a diving park, dotted with traditional decorative arches, Thai mythical figures and more.
